It’s normal for babies to grab what they can and put inside their mouth. They perceive everything as food. When they liked the taste, they will try to chew it with their gums but when they did not they will throw it away.
But when it comes to authentic food, it’s the responsibilities of the parents to introduce to them the right kind of food that must be eaten. Sometimes, it is a difficult task to do, but when your baby gets the hang of it, feeding them will be as enjoyable as playing with them. So what are the things you need to know when feeding them?
- Babies love Sweets
- It is the sweet taste buds that is dominant of all. If food has this taste, it is more likely for them to eat. Babies do not like sour food they will just throw it and if we continue to introduce sour food to them, they will eventually hate eating. Salty food meanwhile has little impact. But then again, we all know that salty food is harmful if taken in excess by adults, how much more if taken by babies?
Since they are to cling more on sweets, formula milk was made to have sugar content too. Cereals are also safe to introduce to them. But if you want to catch their attention, ensure that the cereals are sweet to taste.
- Babies love Colors
- are attracted to colorful objects. Have you seen the new baby cereals in the market nowadays? They are made by colorful flakes and mixtures. This elevates the desire of the babies to take in the food into their mouth.
- Babies love Smooth Textures
- Once you introduced something into their mouth and their tongue felt greasy or rough, they will throw it out. That is why, babies’ solid food are naturally smooth and light.
- Let them Eat with Pattern
- Consistency is one of the main keys to make your feeding successful. Regularly, you have to follow your feeding schedule. This technique targets two things: development of a habit and conditioning the brain. If the brain has been conditioned, the babies will feel the hunger at the time you’re about to feed them. This will only happen if you help them develop an eating pattern. They must know when to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner even if they aren’t eating the kind of food we adults are eating.
- Eat with your Babies
- Isn’t it nice to eat with the whole family? That goes the same with the babies. If they see mommy and daddy eating too, the habit of eating together will be instilled into their minds. They will eventually know that eating is a regular thing.
- Introduce Gradually
- The safest is to introduce new solid food every week or every other 3 days. Allow an adjustment period for your babies’ taste buds. This will also prevent intolerance to any food as they grow older.
Feeding babies can be fun or can be a cumbersome task. What is it for you?
